Public Classes
Public Safe Boating Course
Effective January 1, 2010, Houston Sail and Power Squadron, a unit of the United States Power Squadrons (USPS), began preparing to offer the complete range of nationally recognized USPS boating courses (previously available only to USPS members) to the PUBLIC!!! For more information on these courses, including class schedules and any pre-reqs, please contact Rick Fisher at 281-734-4443.
Houston Sail and Power Squadron, in partnership with Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, offers a 1-day boating safety course. This course covers seamanship, required equipment, regulations and rules of the road, emergency procedures and much more. It covers just about everything you need to get started, and is a great refresher for the more experienced boater. For more information about the content of the course, click HERE.
Our classes are held at our classrooms (Home Port) located at 6910 Bellaire Blvd. #15, Houston, TX 77074. Registration for the class starts at 8:30 a.m. and the course lasts until approximately 4:30 to 5:00 p.m. The cost is $45.00 for the first family member (includes one book which can be shared), and $10.00 for each additional family member (additional ABC 3rd Edition books are available for $30 each). There is an additional charge of $10.00 for each person that wants a state Boaters’ Certificate from the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. State certification at this time is required for anyone under the age of 18 operating a boat or jet ski, but is encouraged for everyone.
