Practical On-The-Water Training

Practical On-The-Water Training

USPS, the leader in boating safety and education for a century, has an exciting program for new boaters.  Developed under a grant from the U. S. Coast Guard, our Practical On-the-Water Training breaks new ground by providing high quality, affordable training for those who want to develop or improve their boat handling skills.

This program is a one-day, 8-hour seminar.  It includes 4 hours of classroom training and 4 hours of training and practice behind the wheel of a boat.  Our classroom sessions are taught by qualified USPS instructors, and our on-the-water sessions are conducted by highly experienced boaters specially trained in on-the-water certification.

Here’s what you will learn:

  • Basic controls
  • Low-speed maneuvering
  • High-speed maneuvering
  • Emergency maneuvers
  • Avoiding collisions
  • Docking
  • Anchoring
  • Line handling and knot tying
  • … And much, much more!

Previous boat handling experience is not required, but we do recommend that you first complete a boating safety class.   Our training is held at the Lakewood Yacht Club, 2425 NASA Parkway, Seabrook, TX  77586.  Here is our schedule for 2013:

  • Apr 27
