Is the Houston Sail and Power Squadron a membership organization?

Yes, the Houston Sail and Power Squadron is a membership organization. We are one of over 400 squadrons across the country that are part of USPS, a non-profit educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more enjoyable through education. Our members are boating families from all walks of life who enjoy many different types of boating. We contribute to our local community through promotion of safe boating, public education, and public service.

What are the benefits of membership?

  • Access to the broadest curriculum of recreational boating education in existence. This includes Advanced Grade courses, Elective courses, USPS University Seminars, and Boat Operator Certification

Are there different types of membership?

Our membership is organized around the family unit. The first family member joins as a full member. The rest of the family can join for a single additional fee. There are also discounts for Sea Scout members.

What does it cost to become a member of the Houston Sail and Power Squadron?

Member          $134

Member and Family        $190.50

Sea Scout / Apprentice        $ 12

This includes a one-time $20 setup fee.

Graduates of our basic boating class are eligible to purchase their first 18 months of membership for the price of 12.

How do I become a member?

Fill out an Application and send it to Claire McDonald with a check or use the Add to Cart button below to select your type of desired membership and pay via PayPal. Contact Claire, the HSPS Membership Chair, for more information and assistance. She can be reached at mcdonald@stthom.edu.

Can I take classes without becoming a member?

Yes. All the Basic Boating Safety Classes, Advanced Grade or Elective courses, and Seminars are available to the public.
